Located in Brisbane’s iconic West End, 98 Gym commercial fitout was brought to life by Matt Banks and the Total Fitouts Brisbane Inner South team. The owners contacted the shop fitting/ project management team to help them build their ‘Train Hard, Train Strong’ commercial fitness studio. The shop fitting team were briefed to make the most of the existing shed’s 7 metre high ceilings and colourful brickwork, whilst crafting a multifunctional training space, keeping the industrial feel, and adding a splash of luxury.
Matt and the team worked closely with the owners to transform the old industrial warehouse space, located in a retail hub, into a modern fitness studio fitout. The scope included creating a modern reception area, private amenities, state of art training studio and a functional storeroom.
Total Fitouts Director Matt Banks says, “The existing building shell had good bones and cool industrial features including extra high ceilings and exposed brickwork. Instead of covering up the existing elements, we enhanced them with lighting, bespoke carpentry, and black acoustic panelling. We added functional rubber flooring and ample racking to showcase Rogue fitness equipment and polished up the concrete flooring in the reception area to add texture and maximise the industrial feel.”
Standalone male and female bathrooms were cleverly built within the open-plan space. The unit was wrapped in feature black cladding and feature ‘glow’ lighting and concrete tiles were incorporated to add a touch of luxury. Black vertical acoustic panels were installed for wow factor and sound management.

The shopfitting team built a practical, stylish, industrial space which maximised the bones of the existing space. The fitness fitout is now the perfect environment for 98 Gym clients to enjoy trainer led HIIT sessions. The addition of a simple yet welcoming reception area, heaps of steel storage, bespoke shelving and a lux bathroom were key to the success of this commercial fitout. Custom hardwood joinery, soft lighting, oversized brand signage and a monochrome colour palette were essential design elements.
