Face Up was launched in an empty 38m2 space, in the vibrant Remuera district of Auckland Central. The objective of the commercial wellness and beauty fitout, executed by Luther and the Total Fitouts Auckland Central team, was to create a rejuvenating space for Face Up, who offer special facials and facial sculpting massages. The project, spearheaded by Robert Newman and his wife Olga, aimed to transform the neglected space into a welcoming haven for clients seeking a youthful and relaxing experience, just in time for the holiday season.
The entire project spanned three months, with a focus on meticulous design and attention to detail. The initial challenge of the vacant tenancy, coupled with the intricacies of designing within a small space, demanded careful planning and execution.
The original commercial interior design, crafted by Ritual Interiors, set the foundation for the project’s aesthetic. The curved walls posed a unique challenge during framing, but the team persevered, ensuring a seamless transition between spaces. The emphasis on a holistic design approach for the space encompassed a reception area, toilet, two treatment rooms, and a staff area.
The Face Up commercial wellness and beauty fitout project showcased meticulous attention to materials and finishes. Oak veneer cabinetry, solid oak skirting, and door frames, complemented by brass detailing, exuded a stylish and sophisticated ambience. French wash finished walls, completed by MJ Revival, stone pebble tiling in the bathroom, and a unique mosaic pebble stone tile parameter added distinctive touches to the space. Absolute Resurfacing, a supplier who handled the micro topping for the flooring said “The system used to achieve the desired finish was Permacolour Microtopping system with commercial grade water based acrylic sealer x 3 coats plus x 2 coats of matt polish.” Voltzy Electrical, who managed the intricate lighting installations says, “Face Up beauty was our most detailed project to work on in 2023. From the illumination of the curved walls and shelving coves to the buster and punch switchgear there was no detail spared in the realm of high end commercial fitouts. Our team and the customer are very happy with the result of this project and it couldn’t have been managed better without Luther and his team at Total Fitouts.”

The stone pebble tiling, brass detailing, and the innovative bathroom design, featuring pebble floors and a wall-mounted toilet, were standout features. Luther and the Total Fitouts Auckland Central shopfit team’s use of black-framed windows not only enhanced the commercial interior but also harmonised with LED lighting, creating a visually stunning result.
The commercial wellness and beauty fitout encountered delays due to unforeseen circumstances, including requests for information from the council. The additional month required for addressing these concerns put pressure on the team to meet the promised four-week completion timeline. Notably, the absence of a suspended ceiling in the small area presented challenges, but clever design choices, such as hanging pendant lights and LED strips, created an illusion of more space.
Face Up stands as a testament to the transformative power of thoughtful commercial interior design and skilled craftsmanship. Despite challenges, the project resulted in a space that not only met the client’s expectations but also exceeded them, providing a haven for relaxation and rejuvenation in the heart of Auckland Central.
